“But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me”Acts 1:8 During the civil war, William Scott, a solder in the Legionary Army, felt asleep during his duties while guarding the Chain bridge. He was judged by the Martial Court and condemned to death. His Mom obtained an appointment with the President Lincoln and interceded for the life of her son. Lincoln searched him and asked: “William, did you felt asleep? Can you imagine what could have been happening if the enemy passed the bridge? Do you think that the Court was correct? Do you deserve the punishment?” Crying, William answered: “Yes Sir. I am guilty and I deserve to die.” Lincoln, profoundly moved and deeply impressed said: “William, I will make you free. But remember, your life belongs to me!”
The forgiveness of Jesus cost Him much more than Lincoln payed to forgive William, because it required a live of sufferings and cruel death on the Calvary cross. Jesus is not asking us to dye for Him but to live for Him, as testimonies for what He has done for us.
