Walking Where Jesus Walked

Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where
the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.
-- Jer. 6:16, NIV.

Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If anyone would come after me, he
must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. Matt. 16:24,
NIV.

Fulton College, situated in Fiji, is a Christian training institution
of the South Pacific that provides numerous workers for the mission
field. The Fulton family consists of students and staff from 14 island
nations of the Pacific. Friday evenings at Fulton College are always a
memorable time for any former Fultonian. It's when every member of the
college family comes together for song service and vespers. As members
of the Fulton family, we make it a point to be at vespers for the
fellowship, friendship, and keeping this Fulton tradition alive.
Burdens and worries are put aside as we all sing praises to the Lord.

The special song service had ended. A special message was presented
from Luke, the story of Jesus' crucifixion. Christ was being led out of
the city to Golgotha for His crucifixion. When He could no longer carry
His cross, the people seized Simon of Cyrene and "put the cross on him
and made him carry it behind Jesus" (Luke 23:26, NIV).

Simon had just returned from the country. He hadn't had much time to do
the physical preparation for a typical Friday night vespers, song
service, or fellowship. He'd had no time to prepare for the comforts of
being in a city. He had followed Jesus and showed pity. As a result, he
was seized and forced to share Jesus' load-the cross. The road to
Golgotha was out of the city. Out of the comfort zone for spectators.
The road Jesus walked. The right road.

I need to come out of that city. To stand on that crossroad of decision
and look for the ancient path. To ask where the good path is, the path
where Jesus suffered. I must endeavor to walk in it to experience His
agony.

Let's pray that the Holy Spirit will influence our thoughts and
decisions. To choose to come out of our spectatorship and participate
actively in ministry for the Lord. To share one another's burdens as we
look forward to that city Jesus has prepared for you an
d me.
